There is sadness behind the smile
Though it cannot be seen for miles
A mask of Joy to cover the woe
That lies beneath the veneer of show
We try to share our happy face
And sometimes forget the pain and place
The hurt and anguish hidden deep
Just below the surface, we keep.
When our hearts are worn and tired
And the sadness can't be denied
We give a smile to cover it up
Though its not enough to fill the cup
Let us recognize the sadness there
And show some understanding and care
Offer a hand to help us through
And remind us that we'are not alone, its true.
